Heritage Designs Quilting and Needleworks – Amana, Iowa

Chris & Danita are another mother-daughter business partnership popular in our industry.   In fact, Heritage Designs Quilting and Needleworks is a third generation mother-daughter partnership.  Chris’ mother started the business 44 years ago.  Chris joined her 39 years ago.  And Danita joined Chris 3 years ago.

The store is FULL of beautiful sample quilts of all styles, sizes and specialties.  Heritage is known for their collection of batik fabrics.  They carried a large selection even “before they were cool”.  They’re also proud of their 30s collection.

They offer a great selection of needle work projects and supplies.  Examples include cross stitching, embroidery, and even tatting supplies.   Chris shared history about Amana quilts.  It was interesting to learn about the whole cloth quilting style the Amana’s are known for.  The quilts are quilted with a thicker thread, such as a size 8 pearl cotton.  Longer quilting stitches and very lofty batting are also used.  Many designs incorporate a center medallion as the focus.

Chris & Danita focus on customer service and offering well tested patterns and notions.

Their favorite part of the All Iowa Shop Hop are the new friendships they make.
