It’s important to start them early!!! Whether its encouraging a love of this business in our kids, or instilling a passion for sewing, knitting, quilting, or embroidery in our customers. Codi Josephson opened Home Ec 12 years ago with a partner. They named it after the old high school class and fashioned their store after it – they offered sewing, food, and crafts. Codi moved to their current location about 5 years ago and during the move, dropped the “food” portion of the original business. Home Ec Workshop is a unique store on the All Iowa Shop Hop tour in that it’s one of the few stores that offer fabric and a great selection of yarns.
Codi teaches sewing classes and knitting classes, and being in a college town sees a good mix of community and students in her classes. It’s so exciting to see and hear about stores that are inspiring the younger generations to get hooked on creating and making. Home Ec is also a perfect example of how eclectic the stores on the All Iowa Shop Hop are and the uniqueness of each. Stores like Home Ec Workshop offer customers exposure to a variety of arts and crafts to give their customers even more outlets to express themselves.
Codi loves to meet the shop hoppers during June to hear where they’re from and where they’ve been, and she encourages hoppers to look past the freebies and get to know the stores and their staff while you’re visiting. And if you’re lucky like I was, you’ll get to meet her future business partner Leo when you visit during the All Iowa Shop Hop!
