The Woolen Needle – Williamsburg, Iowa

Annette Boland has been sewing since she was young.  She was a stay at home mom when a friend introduced her to rug hooking and working with wool.  The Woolen Needle opened in 2006 on the square in Williamsburg, IA.  Annette worked there with her friend and eventually (2011) Annette became an owner/partner.  Then in 2019 she became the sole owner.

When you first walk into the Woolen Needle you’ll be struck at the beautiful hand-dyed wool they carry.  In fact, they sell that hand-dyed wool directly to stores across the U.S.  Annette also designs quilting and wool projects and self publishes them.

Be sure to check out the lap quilt she designed for the All Iowa Shop Hop!  She used our exclusive toile fabric and combined it with fabric from her store.  Once the All Iowa Shop Hop Magazine goes on sale in May, you’ll be able to recreate her exclusive design yourself!

Like many stores on the AISH tour, The Woolen Needle teaches classes.  Annette says she loves to introduce customers to working with wool.  Class examples include rug hooking or hand embroidery.  Annette says they prefer to let their customers dictate their class schedule.  So just give them a call and they’ll schedule a one-on-one time for you to come in and explore a new craft!

Williamsburg is right off the interstate and is known for the outlet mall right off the exit.  But it will behoove you to drive the extra mile to find the town square.  Annette promises that any of the restaurants you’ll find there will be a great place to refresh after visiting The Woolen Needle and before heading down the road to your next store!
